OUR HONOREES
Brett Grossman
HONOREE
As a lifelong patron of and participant in the arts, it was only natural that Brett became an avid supporter of HEARTS PW. Since 2015, Brett has served as a member of the Grants Committee and has been involved with certain programmatic offerings developed by HEARTS. She joined the HEARTS Board of Directors in 2022 and currently serves as co-chair of the Grants Committee. She loves that HEARTS is so inclusive of the Port Washington community, funding programing for all ages and abilities; providing opportunities for pre-schoolers at the Parent Resource Center through senior citizens at the Senior Center. Those who are passionate about the arts benefit from programming to hone their skills and many grants provide exposure to the arts to those that may not otherwise have access.
Brett’s love for the arts stems from her days, many decades ago, studying vocal performance and participating in musical theater productions. Thanks to The Community Synagogue Theater Company, she recently found her way back to the stage after a 20 year hiatus - even performing at last years' PortFest.
Brett and her husband Marc have lived in Port Washington for 17 years and have two sons, Kyle, a freshman at Schreiber, and Zach, a 7th grader at Weber. Brett is an attorney, practicing for the past 16 years at Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP. She is a graduate of Barnard College and the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
Brett would like to thank HEARTS for this incredible honor and her friends and family for their love and support - particularly her parents for giving her early exposure to the arts and her husband who encourages and supports all of her endeavors.

Lisa Marschall
HONOREE
For Lisa Marschall, the arts and especially music are paramount. Singing and dancing from an early age, Lisa joined every choir and vocal group in Roslyn public schools. Thanks to a favorite aunt, at age 10 Lisa began playing a garage sale guitar. She was later exposed to theatrical hair and makeup in high school, and after earning an MBA in finance from NYU, became a professional hair and makeup artist. After Lisa came to call Port Washington home, she began to donate her services to local theater groups including the Port Summer Show, Weber and Schreiber theater groups, and the Community Synagogue Theater Company.
A habitual and dedicated volunteer, Lisa gave time to the district's HSAs, Parent Council and Compact committees. She has been involved with HEARTS PW since the beginning, first a volunteer then a Board Member, co-chairing several Red Party events. She has been involved in every PortFest since the inaugural festival in 2012, and is now a leader who brings everything together to benefit the organization and the community. Lisa and her husband Kai initially bonded over a shared love of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and singing harmonies, and have two children: Emma (singer, dancer, guitarist, pianist, and music producer), and Jacob (drummer, bass player, guitarist and member of the bands Forever Mortal and Letter of Marque). Lisa continues making music today as a member of the local band On The Rocks.
Lisa would like to thank the entire HEARTS team of board members and volunteers for all of their support and efforts to keep Port’s arts alive and flourishing, and for this incredible honor.

Miranda Best
ARTS EDUCATION LEADERSHIP AWARD
Miranda Best has taught art for over 25 years in Port Washington–first at Weber Middle School and for the past 20 years at Schreiber High School. During this time, Miranda has worked with students to create murals, host visiting artists, design fashion collections, take field trips and much more. Miranda has found that working with contemporary art is an essential piece of her approach to teaching, allowing students to examine ideas from multiple viewpoints.
Prior to teaching, Miranda grew up in Virginia, going to school at Vassar College and then at Teachers College, Columbia University. Miranda taught art in Manhattan for one year before making the move to Long Island. For the past 24 years, she has lived in Sea Cliff with her husband Jim and her two children, Jackson and Maya. Miranda maintains her artmaking practice with a focus on drawing, painting, and printmaking from her home studio.
Miranda is grateful to the Port Washington School District for enabling her to provide for her family while working with students and pursuing her passion for art. HEARTS PW has been crucial to many of the activities and materials that have become fundamental to the art department at Schreiber that she holds dear.
