Performing Arts

Chorus students in 5th—12th grade throughout the district will experience the thrill of performing in a world-class concert hall.  This program is funded in partnership with the Creative Arts Department and The Ed. Foundation.

Port Washington Summer Music Scholarship Program

Funds will be used to provide scholarships for students to attend the district’s summer music program which will allow them to continue musical instrument studies, or in some cases, learn an instrument for the very first time.

Afternoon Artists
Stephen Moore
3rd—5th grade students will enjoy an after-school, student-driven creative exploration. By working with ceramics, painting, printmaking and mixed media, they will create individual visual statements that grow out of their experiences, feelings and interests. Students will also learn first-hand how other talented artists have created personal work.

Curtains Up: A Musical Theatre Experience

In spring 2020, 4th and 5th graders across the district will participate in an after-school musical theatre program. A full musical—including singing, dancing, costumes and scenery—will engage students in every aspect of theatrical production (show to be determined).


Dancing Classrooms
All 5th grade students will participate in a ten-week ballroom dance residency, learning essential life skills through the art of social dance. This program is funded in partnership with the Creative Arts Department, Elementary HSAs/PTAs & The Ed. Foundation.

Students will have hands-on experience with professional-level equipment, learning standard industry tools and lighting techniques, creating elevated artwork, and expanding their overall knowledge.

Schreiber Big Band participants will work and perform with world-renowned jazz trumpet player Tony Kadleck, creating an opportunity to learn from and play with a professional musician.

The Memory Project

The Art Honor Society will create portraits of children and teens around the world who have been orphaned, neglected or disadvantaged, to provide them with special memories that capture their childhood.


Fall Drama Production of Schreiber Theatre Company

Students will engage in a professional-level production of a play for the Port Washington community to enjoy. HEARTS provides support to bring this production to life.

Classical Theatre of Harlem

Students will engage in a one day visit with two actors from the acclaimed Classical Theatre of Harlem and their “Project Classics” program. During the visit the actors will work with 10th grade classes studying Shakespeare.

​Weber Middle School
Woodwind & Brass Ensemble
Elizabeth Andrew
A woodwind and brass ensemble will provide the opportunity for students to work in a small group setting with a focus to improve musicianship and learn skills unique to chamber music. This will culminate in a concert for all to enjoy.


Full STEAM Ahead: Technology Tools for the General Music Classroom

General Music students will be able to keep aligned with 21st Century learning skills and the districts vision of STEAM studies, by incorporating more technology in the music curriculum with this ongoing class.


Weber Music Tech/AV Club

In an after-school club, students will learn the technical side of music and theatre by learning how to operate sound and lighting boards, how to create music with digital tools, and how to record/edit audio and video. This will all take place in Weber's newly renovated auditorium.


Weber Pop Choir

A choir where accomplished vocalists, accepted by audition, have the opportunity to perform fun, yet musically rigorous pop music at their full vocal potential, culminating in a concert for all to enjoy.


Daly Elementary School
To Life, To Life 
Sheri Suzzan
Third graders bring notable historical figures to life through live performance. The process will include learning effective research and writing techniques while exploring vocal variations that will incorporate use of theatrical voice methodology. There will be a final performance in full costume.


Dance, Dance, Dance 
Giovanna Fitzpatrick
Pre-Kindergarten students will experience a developmentally appropriate movement/dance program, while exploring space and tempo. The classes will help the students develop social/emotional skills, and muscle development, as well as developing their dance vocabulary.


Salem Elementary School
Storytime Theater

This program incorporates performance arts with the classroom curriculum as students experience books in a kinesthetic, artistic, imaginative, social and tactile atmosphere. Students are guided to act out a piece of literature bringing the book to life.


Ailey Dance Kids
Pia Ferrante and Erin Scott

First graders will participate in an eight-week, in-school, residency in West African style dance, led by members of the celebrated Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. These workshops teach unity of body, mind and spirit which is fundamental to African culture. Students also learn regional songs along with dances of welcome and praise culminating in a performance. This program is funded in partnership with The Ed. Foundation and Salem HSA.

Music Program for Stepping Stone Classes

An engaging music program for Pre-K children who may not otherwise have access to extracurricular activities.

Port Washington Senior Center

Seniors who attend programs at the center will engage in specialty art classes facilitated by qualified art teachers.


Port Summer Show 2020 Summer Production
Rachel Muratore
Support will be used to benefit the Port Summer Show’s annual musical production. Port Washington teen residents, 7th grade through 12th grade, experience a summer program working with a professional director, choreographer and costume designers. The entire community benefits from this theater experience.


​The Community Synagogue Theater Company

Support will be used to benefit Community Synagogue Theater Company’s musical production. All Port Washington residents, both children and adults, are encouraged to audition and be a part of the production.

HEARTS Master Class at Landmark on Main Street
HEARTS Master Class Series at Landmark on Main Street continues, offering free and engaging professional development by master teachers/artists for community teens and adults in a variety of artistic disciplines. Program details and schedule to be announced.
